“Fermented Stevia’s Lab Anticancer Potential: 2025 Hiroshima Study Targets Pancreatic Cancer Cells – Pre-Clinical Early-Stage Findings!”🔬🌿

A 2025 in vitro study from Hiroshima University (published in International Journal of Molecular Sciences) demonstrated that stevia leaf extract fermented with plant-derived Lactobacillus plantarum SN13T strain (FSLE) exhibited enhanced cytotoxicity against pancreatic cancer PANC-1 cells compared to non-fermented extract.
Key lab findings:
•FSLE showed stronger antioxidant activity (DPPH/ABTS scavenging, H₂O₂ protection in HEK-293 cells) and selective toxicity to PANC-1 pancreatic cancer cells, with limited effects on non-cancerous HEK-293 kidney cells.
•The primary active compound identified was chlorogenic acid methyl ester (CAME, ~374.4 μg/mL in FSLE).
•CAME induced G₀/G₁ cell cycle arrest, promoted apoptosis (upregulated Bax, Bad, Caspase-3/9, Cytochrome c, E-cadherin; downregulated Bcl-2), and inhibited proliferation/migration in PANC-1 cells.
This is strictly preclinical (in vitro/cell-line experiments)—no animal models, human trials, or clinical data exist.
Fermentation boosted bioactivity, but extensive further research (years of rigorous testing) is required to assess any potential therapeutic role.
An intriguing example of fermentation enhancing natural compounds for anticancer investigation!
