Well yes, mass migration does have people delusional. But we are still majority European and Anglo Celtic, not majority Asian. This is a classic ethnocentric migrant take on our cuisine.
Australian cuisine stems from the British isles mainly and europe:
- Pies, pastries, sausage rolls
- Roast dinners
- Cured and pre processed meats like Bacon, Ham, Sausages, rissoles and burgers. Fried breakfasts with a side of smashed avocado and eggs.
- We have the finest dairy and beef industries in the word, our steak, cheese and milk quality is world class.
- Fish and chips, a British style fried delicacy, but our fresh fishos are also top level - Amazing local seafood like prawns, barramundi, snapper, bugs, oysters.
- We have a very unique and high quality wine industry, as well as local brewers in every city and town for lagers, ales and stouts. (All European fermentation practices)
- Our coffee houses are world renowned as being the global leaders.
And of course the cultural classics like Bunnings snags, fairy bread, lamingtons, parmis, schnitties, tim tams, vegemite, Anzac biscuits, rissoles, dagwood dogs, golden gaytimes, milo, chicken salt, chicko rolls, lemon lime bitters, kangaroo steaks and many others that are all pretty much independent to Australia. Even when you go to the UK, they have no idea what lemon lime bitters is at the pub, or a schnitty or a parmi and they have marmite not vegemite.
So yeah, I guess that lays it all out on the table Iluka.
kind of funny to me when someone who isn't australian asks me what aussie food is because our population is like, 50% asian people, we all just eat asian food tbh 😭😭😭 (or gyg lol) the most "australian" thing I eat is probably... vanilla slice or something
