In Memory of Mirza Talib Hasan (1946–2025)
The Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) mourns with deep sorrow the passing of Mirza Talib Hasan, former Director General of GSP, who served the institution and the nation with distinction and dedication. His departure marks the end of an era in Pakistan’s geological sciences, but his vision and contributions will remain an enduring part of GSP’s legacy.
Mr. Hasan was among the pioneers who shaped the foundation of coal exploration and energy geology in Pakistan. Over his long and illustrious career, he led significant mapping and exploration programmes, leaving behind a remarkable scientific legacy that continues to guide generations of geologists. His research on phosphate and coal geology provided critical insights into Pakistan’s mineral resources and laid the groundwork for the country’s future energy development.
As Director General of GSP (2004–2008), he guided the organization with foresight and commitment, strengthening national initiatives in mineral and energy resource assessment and representing Pakistan in prestigious international forums. His leadership brought recognition to GSP as a key scientific institution serving the nation’s development goals.
Beyond his professional excellence, Mr. Hasan was revered for his humility, integrity, and kindness. He was a mentor to many, always willing to share knowledge and inspire young geoscientists.
On behalf of all officers and staff, the Director General, Mr. Adnan Alam Awan, pays special tribute to the late Mirza Talib Hasan for his lifelong service, scientific contributions, and exemplary leadership. The entire GSP family joins in offering heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family and prays that his soul rests in eternal peace.
Indeed, his name will remain etched in the geological history of Pakistan — a symbol of dedication, scholarship, and service.
