Condemnation of Continuing Violence and Urgent Appeal for Immediate Peace in Manipur
Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) expresses profound sorrow and grave concern over the escalating series of violent incidents across Manipur from 29th May to 11th June, 2026. These attacks have claimed innocent lives, destroyed homes and places of worship, displaced families, and severely eroded inter-community trust.
We Strongly Condemn:
1.The ambush and killing of truck driver Nitish Kumar from West Bengal on 29th May, 2026 near TM Kasom/Litan area, Ukhrul District, along with all attacks on civilians and security-escorted vehicles.
2.The arson attack on Kharam Vaiphei in Kangpokpi district on 30th May, 2026, where five houses were burnt, instilling fear and displacement.
3.The brutal pre-dawn attack on Loibol village in Kangpokpi district on 5th June, 2026, resulting in the deaths of Letkhongam Haokip, Tinmary Haokip, and Jangminlal Haokip, and the burning of several homes.
4.The killing of Chunjanglung Panmei at Pongringlong in Kangpokpi district on 8th June, 2026 during a community water source initiative.
5.The killing of Haokhogin Lhouvum, a farmer from Lasan Village in Tamenglong district, on 9th June, 2026 while working in his paddy field.
6.The abduction and brutal killing of six Naga men namely, Rev. Dr. Manu Thiumai, Dilip Thiumai, Phenrilungbou Chawang, Pherongwibou Thiumai, Kenpibou Chawang, and Kliwangbou Abonmai, at Leilon Vaiphei, Kangpokpi district on 13th May, 2026, whose bodies were recovered on 10th June, 2026, a grave violation of human dignity and rights.
7.The attack on Kultuh Village on 11th June, 2026, which claimed the lives of Letminlun Haokip and Lunminthang Haokip, and destroyed homes and a church.
8.All forms of ethnic violence, targeted killings, abductions, intimidation, arson, and attacks on religious institutions, irrespective of the perpetrators or victims.
We Appreciate:
The successful humanitarian efforts leading to the safe release of 14 detainees/hostages on 9th June, 2026 in Senapati District with the constructive role played by the United Naga Council (UNC), various community leaders, religious leaders, village authorities, state and central government, and all stakeholders in facilitating dialogue and peaceful handover.
Our Appeal:
1.We demand an immediate end to all violence, killings, abductions, arson, and retaliatory attacks.
2.We urge the State and Central Governments to ensure swift, impartial investigations and bring all perpetrators to justice.
3.We call upon all communities to reject hate speech, misinformation, and divisive propaganda.
4.We urge all stakeholders to pursue dialogue, reconciliation, and confidence-building measures to restore peace.
5.We stand in solidarity with all bereaved families and call for justice, healing, and lasting peace.
Violence is not the solution. The protection of human life, dignity, and harmonious coexistence must be the collective priority of all stakeholders.
