"Apart from school, we had to work in farms. My father was a farmer," Dr K Sivan told NDTV.
As a child, Dr K Sivan didn’t wear sandals until college. He wore a dhoti, worked in the fields, and walked barefoot — but never walked away from his dreams.
Born to a humble farmer in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari district, Dr Sivan’s journey is nothing short of extraordinary. He fasted for days when his father couldn’t afford his engineering studies.
Eventually, his father sold land to pay for his education.
No trousers. No shoes. No privilege.
Only grit, determination, and a dream larger than life.
From studying at the Madras Institute of Technology, to working on the PSLV project, to chairing ISRO and leading Chandrayaan-2, his story reminds us:
You don’t need perfect conditions to launch — you just need relentless passion.
"I wasn’t bothered about what I didn’t get. I excelled in whatever I was given to do," he added.
From the dusty fields of Tamil Nadu to the command centres of India’s space dreams — this is what inspiration looks like.
