Honestly, I would have guessed an even bigger gap. I think it speaks well of the VAX architecture and performance in its era. Btw. “Back in the day” I started my career as a test engineer and one of my tasks was to program and maintain our GENRAD 2276 In-Circuit Test machine. It was based on a PDP-11/73 running RSX-11M . And later, at that same company, I was promoted to Sr. Electronics Engineer and we used the Intergraph CAD system which ran on the VAX.

Best Known as Kurt von Trapp in Chase joined the United States Forest Service in Santa Barbara during the summer of 1969. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1976. Later, he obtained a master’s degree in geology from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. His professional career included work at a Chevron refinery and eventually as a software engineer, notably with Intergraph Corp. in Huntsville, Alabama. He has also worked as a geologist and forester, embracing a career far removed from the spotlight. Despite stepping away from acting, Chase has remained proud of his contribution to The Sound of Music. In interviews marking the film’s 50th and 60th anniversaries, he has spoken warmly about his experiences on set, the lifelong friendships with his “Sound of Music siblings,” and the opportunity to meet members of the real von Trapp family. Married since 1987 to his wife Petra, he has lived a quiet life in the Pacific Northwest, reflecting on a remarkable childhood chapter that continues to bring joy to millions. Duane Chase’s story is a refreshing example of a child actor who successfully transitioned into a fulfilling adult life outside Hollywood. While he will forever be remembered as the cheerful Kurt von Trapp whose voice helped make “The Sound of Music” sing, his real legacy lies in choosing authenticity and purpose long after the curtain call.

The claim that before Chandrababu Naidu Hyderabad was 0 is completely wrong. Hyderabad was already at 5 when CBN dethroned NTR. There were companies like Intergraph, CMC, TCS, Cyient, Wipro, Infosys, Cognizant and even Schrodinger Inc established their operations in Hyd. Chandrababu was one lucky person tobe at the right place at the right time. One credit that can go to him is how he manipulated the image by talking about it countless times and using the yellow ecosystem effectively. Hyderabad would have been same or even better of CBN was not in the picture.

Hyderabad Has IT Foot Print Before 1995. STPI Established in 1991 Some of the IT Firms Started Operations in Hyderabad CMC (Synergy Park): 1982 Satyam : 1992 Intergraph (Hexagon) : 1987 Sonata : 1994 Infotech Enterprises (Cyient) : 1991
0-1 is difficult. Once momentum is gained there is something called Snowball effect. That will kick off. PVNR with his policy and NCBN with his enterpreneural zeal got Hyderabad from 0 to 1 by 2003 already. Does Hyderabad have the capital to make this happen? Absolutely. Would it happen automatically regardless of efforts by NCBN? No. Btw, 2000-03, India witnessed a slowdown with 3-4% economic growth. 2003 was perticularly difficult year. Then, India started to rise. It was growing 8.8% btw 2003-08. Reforms started paying off fully. Cities that made efforts to bring and establish service sector by then got benefited out of this momentum. YSR didn't roll Hyd back. But, one can't credit him with "ఐటీ రంగాన్ని అభివృద్ధి వైపు నడిపిన నాయకుడు" and such. YSR can be credited for other industries in Hyd, but not IT.

In my first week as intern at Intergraph (BR branch) I was watching two engineers painstakingly removing products one by one to reconfigure a Mech Design workstation into an AEC one. Imagine python modules without automatic dependencies. I happily suggested they used >rmprod * to remove everything at once. What they did, removing even the System V boot loader. They had to bring the system up from bare metal with optical system installation discs.

You forget that software company INTERGRAPH that stood tall while one ascended the Begumpet flyover ! It was considered a prestige if you worked for that company in those days. Then there was a swanky pub called Bottles and Chimney!Just beside it was Tirumala Music Centre!

Begumpet, until the mid-2000s, was one of the most happening areas. Begumpet Airport, Lifestyle building with Music World, My Home Tycoon, Country Club, Ramada Manohar, Bottles & Chimneys (often featured in Deccan Chronicle Page 3), 10 Downing Street, Coffee day, Green Park Hotel (Club Escape), and ITC Kakatiya(Dublin), everything was centered here. I also remember software companies like Intergraph, Sonata Software, Satyam Computers, and Virtusa (in My Home Tycoon) operating from this area. One of my favorite restaurants was Malgudi in My Home Tycoon, with great ambience and very good South Indian food, including Tamil Nadu and Kerala dishes.
Begumpet gets it's name from Basheer Ul-Unnisaa Begum, the daughter of the 6th Nizam who got this land as part of her wedding dowry. Much before Cyberabad took shape, this was Hyderabad's IT Hub. Most of the early IT firms set up shop here. During the 80s, 90s and early 2000s this was the Madhapur- Gachibowli of those times. It had cafes, restaurants, ice cream joints, clubs. Country Club was a happening place for all kinda functions. Before the Mall explosion, you had Lifestyle and Shoppers Stop. And this was where you boarded your flights before Shamshabad happened. Even now it still remains a commercial hub. Not to mention all the iconic landmarks here Hyderabad Public School, Paigah Palace, Spanish Mosque.

Intergraph was basically the Google, Amazon of the 90s, getting a job there was considered prestigious. Especially known for it's GIS , CAD Software, was acquired by Hexagon in 2010. Currently though it's office is not here. Satyam anyway is now Tech Mahindra. Sonata and Virtusa are still there around, though I think current Sonata office is somewhere in Nanakramguda.

Computing pioneer James Meadlock (Intergraph) paid $34.3M for mansion in Bear's Club in Jupiter. He bought a home on the same street in November, but he just listed it for sale. He likes the new house better bizjournals.com/southflorida…

Fun fact: the lineage of Xpedition goes all the way back to Intergraph, which designed the original predecessor software on the VAX. The company where I had my first engineering job had this. To run it, you had to buy this amazing piece of furniture in the pic.

Intergraph, l’époque où une station de travail coûtait le prix d’une maison… mais faisait tourner la CAO comme de la magie. 💾✨ Avant Intel, avant Windows, ils avaient leur propre CPU : Clipper. Respect. #Intergraph #Workstation #RetroTech #CAD #Unix #GeekHistory #silicium
