Whether you're planting trees, restoring ecosystems, or working in the field, your equipment can unintentionally help invasive species spread from one site to another. That is why Forests Canada and the @InvSp collaborated to develop the Clean Equipment Protocol for Field Practitioners, a new practical, user-friendly resource designed to prevent the spread of invasive species. It answers the question: “What do I need to do right now?” While this resource was developed with tree planting and ecological restoration practitioners in mind, the information is valuable for everyone and can help play a role in protecting native ecosystems with simple steps to reduce the spread of invasive species. Together we can help keep our forests, grasslands, and natural landscapes healthy by learning more about invasive species. Check out our resource: forestscanada.ca/en/resource…

Garden Tip of the Day: It may look similar to Winter Aconite, but do NOT transplant lesser celandine or move any from local parks to your home garden! It is an invasive species that unfortunately can only be removed by chemical means. #gardendc #gardening #gardentips #gardenhack #gardeningtipsforbeginners #GardenHacks #invsp

Garden Tip of the Day: Before removing invasive groundcover vines such as English Ivy and Vinca from an area, have a plan ready to plant as soon as the vines are pulled so that you don't have a muddy, run-off erosion mess when it next rains. #gardendc #gardening #gardentips #gardenhack #gardenhacks #gardeningtipsforbeginners #gardeningtips #invsp

I enjoyed attending the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Day Reception last night to learn all about protecting, restoring, and sustainably managing the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River. It was also interesting to learn that I share the same wingspan as an osprey! Thank you to all the organizations who came out to support this engaging reception! @LampreyControl @DucksUnlimited @conont @InvSp @SenateCA

Fishing with a minnow on a hook is a classic Ontario angling experience, but how we handle bait makes a big difference for the waters we love. Follow these tips to fish responsibly and protect our lakes from invasive species and disease: • never dump unused bait into Ontario’s waters; dispose of it in the trash or on dry land, at least 30 metres away from any waterbody • know your BMZ (Bait Management Zone) and check the regulations to see where you can use or move bait legally • avoid moving invasive species or pathogens between waterbodies by following the #CleanDrainDry method to clean your watercraft and equipment Every angler plays a part in protecting Ontario’s incredible fisheries. Ontario’s shallows are prime real estate for largemouth bass, northern pike and panfish this time of year, but they're also hotspots for aquatic plant life. Be sure to take extra care when boating through these shallow areas. Boats can churn up vegetation, making it easier for invasive species like Eurasian water-milfoil to spread or hitch a ride on your prop. And don’t forget, watercraft are regulated as carriers of invasive species. Learn more about your responsibilities and requirements at ontario.ca/AnglersActionPlan. @InvSp

🌳 August is National Tree Check Month! Take a moment to inspect your trees for signs of pests or disease. Healthy trees are vital for our communities. Help protect our urban forest by reporting any findings to @InspectionCan or @InvSp.

Invasive phragmites was dubbed "Ontario's worst invasive plant" by @AAFC_Canada in 2005. Conservationists say that once you see it, you can't unsee it--but there are a few things you can do to stop its spread. @InvSp theweathernetwork.com/en/new…

LPRCA hosted an event teaching landowners about monitoring and treating Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA), an invasive insect killing Eastern Hemlock trees. If you see a hemlock tree with white woolly sacs like in the picture below, report your sighting to the CFIA. @InvSp
