The Director General of the Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat Mr. Kenneth Mwige delivered a keynote address at the 16th KEMRI Annual Scientific and Health (KASH) Conference at Safari Park Hotel.
In his address, he emphasized that strengthening Kenya’s vaccine manufacturing capacity is a national imperative, central to health security, economic transformation, and long term resilience, and firmly anchored in Vision 2030 and the Fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP IV).
He highlighted the critical role of BioVax Kenya in anchoring local production, KEMRI in advancing research and innovation, strengthened regulatory systems in assuring quality and safety, and the Social Health Authority (SHA) in enabling sustainable financing under Universal Health Coverage. Together, these pillars are laying the foundation for a competitive and self reliant health manufacturing ecosystem.
As Africa works toward producing 60 percent of its vaccines locally by 2040, he called for accelerated implementation, stronger partnerships, and decisive action to translate policy into tangible outcomes.
