The tragic stampede at the Shirgao Jatra in Goa which claimed six lives is hauntingly similar to the Mahakumbh stampede, where devotees died due to overcrowding and poor crowd control. Both were predictable, preventable, and shamefully mismanaged. These were not unpredictable natural disasters. These were long-anticipated events with massive crowds expected and yet, basic precautions were ignored. No proper crowd management. No emergency medical response teams on standby. No lessons learnt from past tragedies. This is sheer negligence. And negligence is not a mistake it’s a crime when it costs lives. How many warnings will go unheard?
