Pakistan experienced no load management during peak hours on the night of April 29, as increased hydropower generation and improved local gas supply boosted electricity production and helped stabilise the national grid, according to the Power Division.
A spokesperson said hydropower generation reached 6,000 megawatts, compared to the country’s total installed hydropower capacity of 11,500 megawatts.
They added that electricity output further improved after additional power plants were supplied with local gas. Enhanced hydropower generation and gas availability also strengthened grid stability in the southern region, allowing an extra 100 megawatts to be added to the national system.
Overall, 500 megawatts were transmitted from the southern part of the country, the spokesperson said.
The Power Division clarified that economic load management is still being carried out on high-loss feeders under existing policy, but it is separate from peak-hour load shedding.
Despite the improved supply situation, power plants with a combined capacity of 4,700 megawatts remain inactive due to LNG shortages caused by global market conditions.
