I get occasional flack for being a modern D&D player and using weird races in my games
But it's like this, I tell players humans are a playable race and they each get to contribute an additional one. Some players add dwarves and elves, and others add phoenix people and frogfolk.
My preference is to play human because I like the feeling of playing a mundane character in a fantastical world, but I have 16 players in my game as of now and they each have their own taste and I think the world is more tailored to my group if everyone adds something that they enjoy, even if it's not my preference.
