CSIR-CIMAP congratulates Dr. Dinesh A. Nagegowda on the publication of his latest research in Archives of Microbiology. The study highlights an innovative synthetic biology approach, where a potato-derived enzyme has been used to engineer yeast as a sustainable platform for producing bulnesol—the key aroma compound of guaiacwood oil from the endangered Bulnesia sarmentoi. The research also reveals a novel role of extracellular pH in influencing terpene synthase product profiles, opening new avenues for precision metabolic engineering. This work marks a significant step toward sustainable and scalable production of high-value aroma compounds through microbial systems.
