A Growing Global Mission Centered on Jesus Christ
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is blessed with 114,727 missionaries serving worldwide right now.
They are serving both as teaching missionaries and in all types of service areas globally. Missionaries come from over 150 different countries to serve.
Some serve in full-time proselyting missions, but the majority of the work happening around the world looks very different:
• Church Employment Services missionaries (like me) responding every day, helping job seekers across the world with resumes, interview coaching, and job leads.
• Others serve assisting with housing needs, or offering hope and life-skills classes to those who were formerly incarcerated.
• Many work in humanitarian projects — feeding the hungry, providing clean water, and caring for the needy in their own communities.
• Still others support welfare services and community outreach in countless quiet, behind-the-scenes ways.
Every single one of these missionaries is selflessly giving of their time, asking nothing in return, and serving every day.
What I love most is that anyone can serve — no matter your age or your health.
I’m a senior service missionary with considerable health challenges. These days I serve literally while lying down in bed or from a wheelchair. I take dozens of calls each day from job seekers, all from my phone while staying horizontal to manage my pain.
And I’m far from alone. I serve alongside many wonderful missionaries who also have lifelong health issues and still find ways to serve from wheelchairs, hospital beds, or limited mobility.
The Lord accepts our offering exactly as it is. If we simply do what we can, He makes up the rest.
Anyone can serve.
