Andrew Huberman: "If you wake up and you ingest caffeine right away, you're blocking the adenosine receptor, but you're not clearing it out.." The real question is: Why are we so sleep-deprived that *waiting* for your cortisol to do its job feels like a power move? Cortisol is your body's built-in adenosine cleaner.. NEURALINK: Neuralink’s Head Neurosurgeon, Matthew MacDougall; Study Director, Luke Gordon (@LukeCGordon); and Principal Investigator, Dan Adams (@Dan___Adams) attended the Global NeuroHack in San Francisco this week. They mentored teams during the a 48 hour non-stop competition. Dameer Ahmed, Natalie Chan, Sidney Shah, and Martin Lombard from the Imperial College London built Bova, a selective vagus nerve stimulator for cattle. Bova targets chronic inflammation, stress, Bovine Respiratory Disease, antibiotic dependency, and feed conversion inefficiency. They started with a nerve cuff design and pivoted to a potential stentrode approach after a suggestion from Neuralink’s MacDougall; for the demo they sourced a goat neck at 8am after failing to find cow parts. Neuralink’s Gordon offered technical pointers during the event. The team validated the problem through cold calls to feedlot consultants, emails to researchers, posts on cattle forums and farming subreddits, and direct outreach to farmers and vets.
