SPECIAL ADVISER ON NIGER DELTA AFFAIRS,
COMMENDS GOVERNOR SHERIFF OBOREVWORI FOR PEACE & UNITY DRIVE AMONG ITSEKIRI, URHOBO & IJAW OVER WARRI WARD AND UNIT DELINEATION ISSUE
The Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs to His Excellency, Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Hon. Griftson Timeyin Omatsuli has commended the Governor for his strategic, calm, and inclusive leadership in managing the sensitive issue of Ward Delineation in Warri Federal Constituency.
Warri Federal Constituency as a region in Niger Delta of Delta state, as we all know, is a melting pot of Itsekiri, Urhobo, and Ijaw nationalities — three ethnic groups with deep history, shared rivers, and a common destiny. Any attempt to address administrative matters like ward delineation must therefore be handled with wisdom, patience, and unity of purpose.
THE GOVERNOR’S STRATEGIC DRIVE, that is anchored on exceptional
Stewardship. Advocates Through Peace, Not Division. Rather than allow the issue to degenerate into ethnic tension, Governor Oborevwori chose the path of dialogue. The Governor recently convened a high-level peace meeting with security Chiefs, Top Government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, youth representatives, and political stakeholders from all three nationalities separately and collectively over the rising tensions resulting from the ward and unit delineation exercise in Warri federal constituency, where the Governor urged all stakeholders to embrace peaceful resolution through dialogue. That is the mark of a true statesman.
Unity Before Politics: The Governor’s consistent message has been clear in line with enhanced peace, unity and security for all Deltans as encapsulated in his MORE AGENDA ACTION PLAN: Governor Oborevwori reiterated that
Warri must not be divided. Development cannot come where there is no peace.” By placing the unity of Warri above political interests, His Excellency has reminded us that we are stronger together as one federal constituency.
Respect for Institutions & Due Process: The Governor has urged all parties to respect the constitutional role of INEC and other relevant bodies while also ensuring that the voices of Itsekiri, Urhobo, and Ijaw people are heard through proper channels. This balance between law and consultation has reduced tension and built trust.
In the Niger Delta, we have seen what division costs us. We have also seen what unity builds for us. The Governor’s approach to the Warri Ward Delineation matter shows he understands both history and the future. To our Itsekiri, Urhobo, and Ijaw brothers and sisters: the Governor is not taking sides. He is taking the side of Warri. He is taking the side of development. He is taking the side of peace.
We align fully with the Governor’s plea for dialogue, mutual respect, and patience with due process. When Warri is united, Delta State is united. When Delta State is united, the Niger Delta is stronger.”
Therefore, The Office of the Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs joins His Excellency in appealing to all stakeholders to maintain calm, avoid inciting statements, and allow the processes of engagement and reconciliation to run their full course.
*Warri has always led by example. Let us lead and continue to sustain our peaceful co-existence in unity. Warri must remain one. Warri must remain strong. Peace now*
As the voice to our amiable Governor of Delta state on Niger Delta Affairs, On behalf of the Niger Delta communities and stakeholders, I salute His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for demonstrating that peace is not weakness — it is strategy.
Signed:
Hon Griftson Timeyin Omatusli,
Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs
To the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori
