The Fourth National Development Plan (#NDPIV) under the Human Capital Development Programme emphasises aligning Uganda's education and training with labour market needs to reduce youth unemployment. Career guidance equips learners with courses leading to real jobs and relevant careers. This afternoon, we are honoured to host Mpigi Mixed Secondary School students for a career guidance and academic tour of economics at the Planning House. Our Manager, Human Resource- Education and Gender, @SKurayish leads an interactive session on Uganda's Vision and the Future of Work to refine their career thinking. The Manager demonstrated practical applications of high school economics in national planning processes, he also flashed for the learners some of the growing roles in the health industry highlighted in the #NDPIV like; Medical Tourism; Nurse Practitioners; Online Diagnosis; Home Health Aides; Recreational Wellness Therapists; App Developers (linking medical devices); Drone Monitors (new delivery models), & more. Today morning, we hosted a Mission from the African Development Bank (#AfDB), to discuss the Preparation of the Multinational Uganda/Kenya Standard Gauge Railway (#SGR) Development Project. The meeting focused on the Project's readiness and its alignment to Uganda’s National Development Agenda. The meeting also discussed a number of other key aspects including: Financing of the project; the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP); the project's Environment and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA); Policy, Institutional and Operational readiness; and the attendant risks and mitigation measures. Today, during the launch of the 2025 State of Uganda's Population Report, under the theme: “Mental Health: A Silent Emergency.” Our Executive Board Chairperson @pamdebams emphasised that Mental health is no longer peripheral. It is central to Uganda’s development trajectory. "There remains a clear mismatch between mental health need and investment, we must shift from viewing mental health as a social expenditure to recognising it as a strategic investment in economic growth." As we continue discussions on the 10-Fold Growth Strategy, it is evident that @Tembosteelsltd emerges as one of the key drivers of Uganda's journey toward a double-digit economy. Today, the Executive Board of the National Planning Authority, led by the Chairperson Prof. @pamdebams and accompanied by technical officers, visited Tembo Steel plants in Iganga and Lugazi. The team witnessed a firsthand multi-million dollar investment employing over 3,000 Ugandans. Tembo is the only fully integrated iron and steel plant using iron ore deposits from the Kigezi region to produce various steel products for local and export markets. Tembo Steel’s strong commitment to innovation, job creation, and inclusive growth underscores its pivotal role in advancing Uganda’s socio-economic transformation. #PlanningForDevelopment
