In her special address, Ms. Padma Jaiswal, Secretary, Government of NCT Delhi, observed that foreign direct investors, particularly those from G20, BRICS nations, and the European Union, are placing increasing emphasis on compliance with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, that investors today seek greater transparency, accountability. In this context, she highlighted the proactive steps taken by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, SEBI, and other government institutions to strengthen ESG compliance across India’s corporate sector. She further underscored that the Delhi Government is introducing a Green Budget aimed at balancing environmental sustainability with economic progress.
Commenting on the global ease of doing business framework, she noted that while national-level rankings provide a useful broad perspective, they may not always capture the full extent of reforms and progress undertaken at the state level. Given India’s size and diversity, she emphasized that states are playing a pivotal role as drivers of innovation and reform, collectively contributing to the country’s overall business environment and competitiveness.
