Full genome sequencing is critical for people w #ALS.
#ProjectMinE is an intl study doing genome sequencing on 22,500 - sporadic ALS & unaffected controls.
They are 49% to their goal with over 10k DNA samples.
The US only has 811 samples!

The non-coding genome is substantially larger than the protein-coding genome but has been largely unexplored.
We performed region-based rare-variant association analysis in untranslated regions in #ProjectMine and #NYGC WGS data, in 6,139 ALS and 70,403 non-ALS controls. (2/n)

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Pat Quin. As co-founder of the #IceBucketChallenge his inspiration helped to kickstart #ProjectMinE to obtain the first whole genomes. Since them Project MinE has contributed to the discovery of several ALS-genes
