It’s the last day of the Loneliness Awareness Week activities at Sheffield Hallam University, and the Campaign Team is on the 5th Floor of Owen Building on City Campus again.
We’ve had a great response so far, with Dr Antonia Ypsilanti saying about yesterday “It's been another really good day with lots of artwork. Many people thanked us and requested we do this more often!”
There are still plenty of events running until Sunday and be sure to check out
@marmaladetrust if you haven’t already for a map of events.
We’ve got some more tips from Prof. Andrea Wigfield’s book “Loneliness for Dummies” below, so have a read and continue those
#RandomActsOfConnection long after Loneliness Awareness Week is over!
-------
Connect to others through work - As we spend a large amount of our lives at work it’s a good idea to use the workplace as a mechanism for developing social connections. Try making a concerted effort to connect with your co-workers. If you’re working remotely, suggest and initiate regular real-time communication, invite co-workers for lunch, coffee or after work drinks, or join a workplace peer support group such as a lunchtime sporting or leisure activity.
Spend time in places where you feel a sense of belonging - By enjoying time alone, you can avoid feeling lonely and connect with yourself in a more positive way. Have a think about the places where you feel a sense of belonging and spend more time there. Examples can include a local park, a beach, a trail or forest walk, a sporting or music venue.
Get active - Physical exercise makes you feel better about yourself, improves your health and wellbeing, and can act as a vehicle to connect you with other people. Select your favourite form of exercise and start undertaking it on a regular basis.
