I believe in loving people for who they are, not for who they voted for. Politics shouldn’t be the dividing line in our relationships. Unless you’ve hurt a child, abused an animal, or committed truly evil acts, I’m capable of seeing you for more than your political stance. I can love you whether you’re gay, trans, straight, Black, white, or anything in between. I can respect your feelings and still disagree. I can offer empathy without needing to see eye to eye on every issue.
What I won’t do is attack someone’s character over a vote. I’m not interested in tit-for-tat arguments or cherry-picked clips meant to stir division. Yes, I voted for Trump, but that doesn’t mean I blindly agree with everything he says. I’m human. I have mixed feelings, and that’s okay. I still have a heart, a brain, and a voice, and I won’t be shamed or shut out because of that. Somewhere along the way, especially after COVID, it feels like we forgot how to just be human with one another. I don’t understand it, but I’m choosing connection over division.
