thank you to everybody who has supported me so far as I fundraise for seafarer charity Stella Maris for the
@runreigate 10km event on September 21.
I used to be a huge runner pre-Covid and this is only my second 10km race in 5 years and my first after a significant operation on my foot 18 months ago.
What's got me out of bed for 0630 running club and boot camp classes over the summer is the thought that I'm raising money for a cause that's close to my heart. Seafarer are unsung heroes of globalisation and Stella Maris does a necessary and unseen job around the world providing them with support that they should get but don't. I've made a living out of writing about shipping for two decades and I want to give back in some way to those people who make it all happen.
Training has been really tough as I've started a new job which is using lots of brainpower (shoutout and thanks to the warm welcome from my
@WindwardAI colleagues) and saps discipline and energy. There are mornings I wake up feeling like I'm hungover and yet I haven't even been drinking.
The other weekend I did my fastest pace at ParkRun since 2021. The following weekend I did my slowest pace for the year. (it had been a really stressful week after a woman on the train spilled her coffee on my open laptop while I was working and fried it, then ignored me. that's another story). So I'm not doing too badly and I've done two, 10km runs for the last 2 weeks with one more to go before the big day.
This is a roundabout way to ask that if I've ever produced any content here that you've found useful or has helped you in your work can you please consider donating? I'd really like to make a difference and make the race worthwhile for Stella Maris. thanks!
