Strengthening Global Partnerships for a Greener Future 🇳🇬🤝🇺🇸
On Monday, I had the pleasure of receiving in audience a distinguished delegation from Oregon State University (OSU), USA, led by Professor Chad Higgins, for a courtesy visit at the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (FMIST), Abuja.
Their visit represents a critical step in expanding international academic and research collaboration in the fields of clean energy, sustainable agriculture, and agrivoltaics—a promising innovation that allows us to generate solar power and cultivate crops on the same land.
We held robust discussions on joint research, student and faculty exchange programs, pilot demonstration sites, and how to localize technologies that improve both energy access and food security for rural communities.
I was particularly pleased to learn that the OSU team, alongside partners from LIFEWS Foundation and the University of Abuja, is also hosting the 1st International Agrivoltaics Workshop in Nigeria today, and launching the book “Democratizing the Sun.” This is the kind of cross-sectoral innovation that aligns perfectly with our Ministry’s mandate.
Our engagement with OSU underscores Nigeria’s commitment to:
✅ Advancing climate-smart innovation,
✅ Promoting evidence-based policy through global partnerships,
✅ Supporting grassroots technology adoption to drive rural transformation.
This also directly supports the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR—especially in areas of clean energy, job creation, food security, and inclusive innovation.
As we continue to deepen such partnerships, we remain focused on converting sunshine into sustainable prosperity—making innovation not just a policy, but a solution for every Nigerian.
