Every day, paramedics answer calls for help without knowing what awaits them on the other side of the door.
They respond to medical emergencies, mental health crises, overdoses, traumatic injuries, and life-threatening situations with one goal: helping others.
Yet violence against paramedics continues to rise.
Paramedics are punched, kicked, bitten, spat on, threatened, sexually harassed, and verbally abused while providing care. Many incidents result in physical injuries, psychological trauma, and lost time at work.
What is even more concerning is that many incidents of violence go unreported.
Some paramedics don't report because they believe nothing will change. Others have come to view violence as "part of the job." It isn't.
No healthcare worker should accept violence as a normal workplace hazard.
Every reported incident helps build awareness, drive policy change, improve safety measures, and ensure those responsible are held accountable. If violence isn't reported, it isn't counted. If it isn't counted, it can't be changed. To our paramedics - please continue to report these incidents.
Behind every uniform is a person. A parent. A partner. A friend. A member of your community.
Paramedics show up for us on our worst days. It's time we stand up for them.
Violence is never acceptable.
Violence is never part of the job.
Violence against paramedics must stop.
