Inaugurated the Workshop on Data Driven Hyperlocal Interventions (DDHI), organised by the Directorate of Transport in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence for Road Safety, IIT Madras, aimed at leveraging technology and data-driven solutions to enhance road safety across Goa.
Over the past three years, the coordinated efforts of various departments in addressing black spots and accident-prone stretches have contributed to a 17% reduction in road accidents across Goa. While this progress is encouraging, there is a need to further strengthen our road safety framework through the use of technology, artificial intelligence, and data-driven interventions that can help identify risks, improve planning, and prevent accidents more effectively.
The workshop brought together officials from the Transport Department, Goa Police, Health Department, PWD, National Highways, and other key stakeholders to explore innovative and evidence-based approaches to road safety management. The upcoming rollout of AI-based traffic cameras and greater integration of technology will further support Goa’s vision of safer and smarter roads.
I commend the Directorate of Transport and IIT Madras for spearheading this important initiative. By combining technology, data, and collective responsibility, we can continue working towards making Goa one of the safest states in the country for all road users.
