With climate-induced disasters increasing in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH), regional coordination and knowledge-sharing are vital. Following Pakistan’s 2022 floods, the country overhauled its disaster response systems. In 2024, ICIMOD facilitated visits by senior disaster management officials from Bhutan and Nepal to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to explore its National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), decentralised frameworks, and early warning systems. A joint glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) simulation highlighted lessons on preparedness. The three countries supported a mountain-disasters working group, a shared inventory of equipment, and a regional knowledge platform. Nepali officials also participated in Pakistan’s INSARAG Asia-Pacific Earthquake Response Exercise.
