Unfair Competition & False Reviews – Seeking Justice
After launching my app on the
#Shopifyappstore, it quickly gained traction and started ranking well in search results. Soon after, a competitor—who seems to have monopolized this niche—approached me via live chat, threatening to take down my app. He initially accused me of copying his core concept, even though my idea was inspired from outside the Shopify ecosystem—and many apps already exist in this space.
A few days later, he returned and accused me of violating intellectual property rights. I defended myself, and after a heated exchange, he ended the conversation by threatening that I would "face consequences."
Shortly after that, I started receiving suspicious 1-star reviews:
One app review came from a store that hadn’t even used my app properly—when I contacted the store owner, they admitted they didn’t leave the review.
Two more reviews were posted from stores under the same email, filled with inaccurate and damaging comments—clearly trying to sabotage the app’s reputation.
I’ve documented everything and reported it to
@Shopify . My support tickets are: 57466967 and 56746619.
Unfortunately, it's been nearly 60 days and Shopify has yet to take action—neither the fake reviews have been removed, nor has the competitor been warned or investigated. If this kind of abuse can happen to me, it could happen to any honest developer trying to build on the platform.
I’m asking the developer community to stand up for fairness.
#AppStore success should be based on value and innovation—not intimidation and manipulation.
