Today, addressing the National Consultation on Strengthening Sri Lanka’s Health Emergency Workforce for Chemical and Biological Hazards, Dr Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Services, underscored that preparedness is never a one-time effort. Instead, it is a disciplined and continuous cycle of learning, improvement, and collective action.
He emphasized that this consultation is designed to put that principle into practice, guiding the development of a five year roadmap to strengthen workforce capacities across the health emergency system. By bringing together health authorities, technical agencies, first responders, academia, and partner organizations, Sri Lanka is advancing a truly whole of government and whole of society approach to preventing, detecting, and responding to chemical and biological hazards.
This collaborative commitment reflects the country’s determination to build a more resilient and responsive health emergency workforce one that is equipped, coordinated, and ready to safeguard communities in the face of emerging threats.
