Rusty Crabs and Where To Find Them: A Spot-the-Bug series from ImmuneBytes Today, we mark the completion of our Solana attack-vector challenges series called the Rusty Crabs and Where to Find Them, where each challenge taught us something valuable as developers and security auditors of Rust in Solana, revealing a sneaky vulnerability, one at a time, along with the fixes revealed next week. Some of the key vulnerabilities every Solana program developer must keep in mind are: ♟️Account Re-Initialization: init_if_needed without an is_initialized guard lets attackers overwrite account data. ♟️Account Reloading: Failing to call reload() after a CPI causes stale data checks and allows reward-draining. ♟️Front-Run Initialization: Unprotected init on a config PDA lets anyone claim ownership before the rightful initializer. ♟️Pool-A/Pool-B Reuse: No uniqueness check on two pool accounts means an attacker can withdraw twice from the same liquidity source. ♟️Unchecked CPI Program ID: Using UncheckedAccount for a CPI target allows a malicious program to hijack essential logic.
