Industry–Academia Workshop on Sustainable Mineral Resource Development held at NIT Rourkela! NIT Rourkela hosted an Industry–Academia Workshop on “Sustainable Development Goals for Smart Extraction to Trading of Mineral Resources in Odisha by Transforming Higher Education and Research for Industry Value Enhancement.” The workshop, joined by academic leaders and industry representatives, aimed to promote research, innovation, and industry value enhancement in the mineral sector and encourage meaningful engagement between academia and industry for long-term collaboration. The programme commenced with a welcome address by event moderator Prof. Manish Okade (Associate DEAN-FW). Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao (Director) delivered the inaugural address, emphasising the role of higher education and research in driving sustainable industrial growth. Prof. Rohan Dhiman (Registrar) presented an overview of the institute. The technical session featured a presentation by Prof. Manoj Mishra (HoD of Mining Engineering and Chair of the THRIVE NIT-Rourkela Committee) outlining the project’s objectives and opportunities. This was followed by an address from Prof. Atanu Bhowmick (Professor of Practice at NIT Rourkela). Dr. S K Biswal (MD and CEO of Pranagraf Materials & Technologies) joined in online mode and shared industry perspectives on advanced materials and technology integration. The Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, is continuing its commitment to digital inclusion and capacity development through a Capacity Building Training Programme on Basic and Advanced Information Technology & Computer Skills for tribal students in Jharkhand. The programme is being implemented under the Centre of Excellence initiative supported by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. As part of the ongoing initiative, mid-semester examinations and hands-on practical training sessions are being conducted from March 9–11, 2026 for students of Classes X, XI and XII at Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) Torsinduri, West Singhbhum, and EMRS Salgadih, Ranchi. The programme aims to strengthen digital literacy, technical capabilities and future career opportunities for tribal youth by combining structured classroom learning with practical exposure and academic evaluation. Students in the basic module are being introduced to Python programming, helping them develop foundational coding skills. Meanwhile, the advanced batch is receiving training in Power BI, enabling them to gain practical experience in data analysis and data visualization tools widely used in modern industries.
