First ever
#EU &
#CentralAsia Summit 🇪🇺🇰🇿🇰🇬🇹🇯🇹🇲🇺🇿 ends today (3-4 April)👇
🔸All summits have big statements. But what was actually discussed at Summit 👇
#CriticalRawMaterials ⛏️🏭
#RegionalIntegration 🏗️🚆
#EPCA 🇺🇿🇪🇺💶
#Digital 📡🛰️
#Security 🛂🦠🧬🛡️🚀
#WaterManagement 📊🏞️
#Energy ♻️
1️⃣ This Summit is political. The EU 🇪🇺already has a huge financial and institutional strategic partnership with
#CentralAsia for past three years, including through
#GlobalGateway, Investors Forum, EBRD loans, EBRD study on transport and two MOUs on critical raw materials amongst significant work on water management, renewable energy, trade expansion and so forth.
In addition there are also many bilateral security, mining, economic and other ties between Member States at CA. However, a Summit is always very important to put all of these priorities to the top of the food chain of EU to guarantee follow-up and continued support from the 🇪🇺 President of Commission
@vonderleyen and 🇪🇺President of Council
@antoniocostapm.
2️⃣ The most vital part of
#EU-
#CentralAsia relationship in this context?
Since 2022 it’s all about infrastructure 🚆🏗️🏭, logistics, mining ⛏️, trade 💶, digital (satellite), regional connectivity, water management and renewable energy ♻️.
In 2022-2023 the EU 🇪🇺 commissioned (and released) the EBRD study which calculated that €18.5 billion euro 💶 are needed to increase eight times the container traffic between Central Asia and EU (currently it’s a little below 100.000 TEU and it could rise to 865.000 TEU in 15 years by 2040).
After that study the business kicked in and in 2024 the 🇪🇺 EU, together with
@EBRD, held the investors Forum (January) which raised 💶 10 billions.
Since then the support and investments in infrastructure, mining, trade, digital and energy (both in trade and FDI) has been booming.
3️⃣ What’s does Summit offer?
First EU 🇪🇺 offers another €12 billion. In addition, there will be another Investors Forum this year, 2025, and while the past one focused on infrastructure, the next Forum will focus on
#CriticalRawMaterial mining, processing, supply-chains, industrialisation and energy.
Watch out for joint-company-ventures that bring 🇪🇺 EU mining and manufacturing companies into the Central Asian mineral and industrial spere. The logistics for this is being built and new EU-Central Asia 🇪🇺🇰🇿🇺🇿🇹🇯🇹🇲🇰🇬 corporate partnerships will likely provide technology transfer.
The EU 🇪🇺 knows it’s competing with China 🇨🇳 and US 🇺🇸 and that’s the reason why Europe is willing to offer more socially, ecologically industrially and in terms of tech transfer. And finally it’s important to mention that on the digital and security front the EU 🇪🇺 is connecting Central Asia to thousands of 🛰️📡 satellites as part of
