🚨 More affordable homes are now open for families and individuals in the East Bay! 🚨
The Maudelle Miller Shirek Community is bringing 87 new affordable homes to families and individuals in Berkeley 🏘️💚 — all made possible with $22.8M in funding from Round 5 of the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities Program (AHSC)! 💰✨
“I'm so happy that we have been given the opportunity to thrive,” said Monique Allen, a new Maudelle Miller Shirek resident. Monique was displaced from the Berkeley area 13-years ago, but now, because of this new development, she and her daughter can return! Monique says they are looking forward to walking to school, and not having to deal with a commute.
AHSC makes it easier for Californians to drive less by making sure housing, jobs, and key destinations are accessible by walking, biking, and transit. Maudelle Miller Shirek was developed with the following 🚆 transportation upgrades:
✅ Three new BART heavy rail cars
🚏 Improved bus stops wayfinding at Ashby BART
🚲 Free bike education workshops
🚌 Three years of transit passes for residents
🛤️ Wider sidewalks, a new transit shelter, and better night lighting
This is what transit-connected housing looks like! 🌍🏙️💪
AHSC is administered by SGC and implemented by the California Department of Housing and Community Development (
@California_HCD). AHSC is part of California Climate Investments (
@CAClimateInvest), a statewide program that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment – particularly in disadvantaged communities.
