Hi! My name is Olivia. I’ve had #VisualSnow since I was born and started describing it when I was three years old — I called it “the fuzzies.” My parents thought it was just my imagination.
One day, I described it as “old TV static from the ’80s,” so we decided to #Google it.
Imagine seeing constant static — like a TV 📺 that never turns off.
Visual Snow is characterized by continuous flickering dots across the visual field for more than 3 months, often accompanied by afterimages (palinopsia), photophobia, floaters, or difficulty seeing at night (nyctalopia).

Visual snow vs. migraine aura: debate summary and novel insights into the syndrome
Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS) is a persistent visual disturbance that overlaps with migraine with aura in mechanisms like serotonergic involvement and cortical hyperexcitability — yet remains a distinct neurological disorder.
Neuroimaging and electrophysiological studies consistently reveal abnormalities in visual, salience, and attentional networks, along with glutamatergic dysregulation and impaired top-down control.
This review highlights the urgent need for research into VSS-specific network dysfunctions to guide targeted therapies.

David: They've got what we used to actually describe with old-style TV sets.
Nick: Like static in their visual field!
@DrDavidHealy explains visual conditions that can be caused by SSRIs, including visual snow syndrome (VSS), night blindness and palinopsia.
Interesting note:
Luigi Mangione and Bryan Kohberger both wrote about suffering from Visual Snow.
I find this interesting.
They both also have huge eyebrows. In both cases, this could prove to help identify them.
