Open Letter to
@twitch about their HEAD OF COMMUNITY
@MerryKish
First off I do not condone any attacks or insults and I completely distance myself from anyone that should do that. I want this to be a factual post. While I might sound "bad" in some parts, please do keep in mind, I am not a native english speaker and might not know how to properly make things sound nice. Nothing of this post is meant in a way of "hate". This is a post of dissatisfaction and disappointment.
Yesterday I saw a post the "Twitch Moderator Club" and I got curious. I do mod for a few small channels and being able to communicate with others and learning more about others would be interesting. So I opened the form to check it out. Since I use AI myself for hobby stuff, I instantly saw in the wording and formatting, that this form texts were written or at least HIGHLY prewritten by AI. I giggled about it that the big amazon sub company of twitch doesn't even have an hour to manually write some small texts for themselves and use some bad AI stuff that no one has ever proofread at all.
A day later I saw a post about another Club/Guild of twitch called "Twitch Unity Guild". It was promoted incl. disability. As I am severly disabled and not many people to talk about it, I had the same incentive as with the Moderator Guild/Club. People that are similar might be a great point to have someone to talk to, so I checked that form out too. This form was written in a much better, and more importantly very human, here I'd believe that this form has been written by AI but seeing the other I wouldn't be surprised.
So because I still had to giggle and saw it still as funny, I commented, that the forms are written by AI. Not really putting to much thought in it as it was just funny to me. To my surprise I got a reply from someone called "Merry Kish", I hovered over the profile name and read "Head of Community" and thought "Hey cool, they probably will thank for pointing out the problem" but while the page was loading I was also instantly thinking "Wait, I only joked about them writing stuff with AI because someone didn't want to do it..." and read the words from Mrs. Kish "They were written by a team of humans who care very deeply about this space ♥️".
When I saw this I didn't know if I should laugh or cry and I thought I should probably point out what I am talking about so they can fix it. So I listed the reasoning for the AI "accusation" and also why I believe that at least some part was made by a human, because the text was full of errors, bad and unsupervised Copy&Paste incl. even a checkbox for a "legal" thing that should make twitch legally safe that no children apply, but it stated it would be for the "Twitch Creator Clubs" and not "Twitch Moderator Club". You might say "But Akuma, that is nitpicky, don't you have hobbies?" and I say sure... for us this might be nitpicky and who cares, no one reads it anyways but if children enter the space and parents go legal ways against twitch, this might be a problem for Twitch.
So there I was writing up the errors and problems to be of help and to make a jokingly comment into a proper constructive feedback.
But what does the Head of Community Mrs. Kish answer?
Does she thank me? Does she agree to any weird things? Or give any comment that is also helpful?
Nope. She said, and this is a literal quote: "I ain’t reading all that. We wrote the form."
This stunlocked me. The Head of Community stating just one hour before that "humans who care very deeply about this space ♥️" suddenly doesn't care. Where are the humans that care please suddenly gone to? She gets a proper list of problems and errors and goes "TLDR bro, I don't care"... How are we, the Streamers, Moderators and Community of Twitch trust a person to be caring about our needs if she completely ignores a proper feedback report?
Fixing this would've taken maybe 20 Minutes in rewording things as a human and removing the grammar errors and most importantly fix the text for the checkbox.
But she probably just saw "Pahahaha this little streamer thinks he knows something" and dismissed it. Definitely NOT caring at all.
After a while I thought I wanna check this Airtable website out and saw something that made me burst out in laughter, with the words of Mrs. Kish in mind "They were written by a team of humans who care very deeply about this space ♥️". Why? See the (hopefully X didn't scramble the order) screenshot number 2. This whole Airtables website is an *drummroll* AI APPLICATION CREATION KIT.
It is literally to create webapplications like these application forms via AI. Literallly going to the page and saying "Make me a form for the Twitch Moderator Club and ask for their channelname, the channels they mod for and if they are 18 " (Yes this is very dumbed down and just for a rough display but this is literally what you can type to get a form like the application)... So the claim "Humans wrote it" completely died with this.
And someone that so blatantly lies is a trusted team leader? How?
I don't ask for an excuse, I don't ask for an apology, I don't ask for a statement. I just wanted to get this off my chest. IF anyone from Twitch should read this: Please fix the forms, they are embarrassing to read, at least the Moderator form. The ones with a political background (inclusion) are written quite well.
To be honest, I am a bit afraid that Mrs. Kish might ban me from Twitch for this but I also did need to get this off my chest, knowing that probably, besides her, no one will ever read this, because I have no reach that anyone would give a wet one about my thoughts.
kind regards,
Akuma
