✒️My latest for Nikkei Asia on Japan's "work-willing reform" movement:
To be clear: Takaichi's personal commitment to work hard for her constituents isn't the problem.
The real problem is the "work-willing reform" movement being pushed behind the scenes by business groups. It's being marketed as freedom to work more, but it's really about relaxing overtime limits meant to prevent karoshi (death from overwork).
The data on mental health, sleep deprivation, and what young people actually want tells a troubling story about where this is heading.
Biggest thanks to Yumiko Onishi,

@sharp_writing for the great edit, and to Kinga Yoo for sharing about Hungary's education and their impact on work-life balance.
