💡 AI is reshaping what public health systems can see, understand, and do. It is also moving faster than the systems meant to support it! 🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽
We wanted to get a better understanding of
#musthave #buildingblocks so that the
#promise of
#AI can be harnessed for public health impact - and so we asked around!
#AlwaysBeLearning
📝 The consultative document👇🏼”Foundations & Futures: Reimagining
#PublicHealth in the Artificial Intelligence Era,” highlights some of these preliminary findings and recommendations.
Some of my favorite
#Aha insights from participants:
🔥 “AI doesn’t replace human judgment—it amplifies it.”
🔥 “AI is only as powerful as the data behind it.”
🔥 “The hardest part is not the tech build, it’s the scaling part.”
and a perennial favorite
🔥”Everyone wants to fund the shiny new object …. but not the systems that make these things work. Without that everything else is temporary.”
The call to action is clear:
👉🏼 Public health data
#strategies must be
#sustainable: Financing, workforce and institutional capacity need to support continued maintenance.
👉🏼 Public health data
#structures must be
#government-owned with the right governance and oversight that protects sovereignty and builds
#publictrust.
👉🏼 Public health data
#systems must be
#integrated,
#inclusive and contextualized. Treat - and invest in - them as
#countrygoods in service of public interest and national priorities or AI runs the risk of deepening inequities.
