There’s a cat in my system. Can someone help me remove it? 🐱 It guards files. Jumps on folders. Reads documents on hover — before I even click. I built it as a research experiment around one uncomfortable question: we’ve given AI extraordinary intelligence and dressed it in the same card-grid UI from 2012. We optimized for capability. Nobody optimized for presence. What if the interface behaved instead of just responded? Spatial awareness. Ambient personality. Context before you ask. Calm — not loud. Weiser & Brown called it calm technology in 1995. I think we’ve forgotten it entirely. The surface is alive. Every animation has intent, not decoration. The cat reads context, reacts, protects. It’s a small absurd thing sitting on top of a question I can’t stop asking: Is the interface layer about to become as important as the model underneath? I don’t have the answer yet. Introducing Mira: The Voice-First AI Assistant Built for Real Work I’m excited to finally share what I’ve been building. Meet Mira, a voice-first AI assistant designed to move beyond simple questions and start handling real complex tasks. I’ve spent days perfecting a voice pipeline that feels natural and stays out of your way, so you can focus on getting things done. Mira is currently live with a fully operational voice server and pipeline in production. I wanted the experience to feel like a real-time conversation and not a series of recorded messages. To achieve this, I’ve focused on the technical foundation that makes voice feel human: 1. Bidirectional WebSocket Communication: This keeps a constant two-way connection open so Mira is always ready to listen and respond instantly. 2. Streaming STT, LLM & TTS: By streaming Speech-to-Text, LLM reasoning, and Text-to-Speech, we’ve eliminated the awkward pauses. Mira starts speaking the moment it understands your intent. 3. Barge-in Capabilities: With Voice Activity Detection (VAD), you don’t have to wait for Mira to finish talking. You can interrupt or add a thought mid-sentence, and the system adjusts immediately. 4. Context Awareness: Mira doesn't just process words, it maintains the thread of your conversation, remembering the context of what you’re working on. Right now, Mira is excellent at handling queries. Our next phase is evolving the architecture to be more stateful and latency-sensitive. I'm building a system that stays connected to your projects over the long term. This means moving toward a more robust fault-tolerant backend that can handle continuous resource-intensive tasks while staying incredibly fast. The most important part of Mira’s roadmap is the shift toward Agentic Workflows. I want Mira to be a control layer for your existing tools, triggering multi-step actions through simple voice commands. Instead of just asking for information, you can tell Mira to execute: - “Summarize our discussion and sync the action items to the project board.” - “Hey Mira, pull the latest data from the research folder and draft a quick update for the team.” - “Create a follow-up task based on the friction points we just identified.” By integrating directly into your chats and projects, Mira saves you from having to jump between different apps and screens. I believe the most effective AI is ambient, it’s just there when you need it. While phones and laptops are powerful, they often require you to stop what you’re doing to interact with them. This is why I see a dedicated AI device as the logical next step for Mira. A dedicated AI device provides hands-free utility and it stays part of your environment acting as a secondary system that supports you without being a distraction. The way we work is becoming more fragmented with more tools to manage and more interruptions to handle.
