London’s latest cycle lane - Clerkenwell Rd in Camden. As we continue to expand our network of Cycleways, numbers of bike trips have soared to 1.5m a day. … but we know we have much more to do.
POV first section of the Clerkenwell Rd separated cycle lane. You love to see it @CamdenCouncil

I last updated you on this six days ago and the cones and rubble are still present. Shall I move them onto the main carriageway in order for them to represent enough of a priority to actually be dealt with, or do safe cycleways matter too?

Where are those KSIs occurring? Is it the cycleways, the junctions? let's look at the detail.

pps. (deleted tweet retractiojn); in slovenia there is no speed limit for cyclists on cycleways. The normal speed limits apply (e.g. 20kmh in areas of mixed traffic, 10kmh in pedestrian priority zones, 30kmh where cars have limit of 30 kmh etc.) SImilar laws are in e.g. germany.

Minister for Auckland & #AtlasNetwork Sycophant, Simeon Brown, wants speed bumps ripped up across the city & fewer #cycleways built, as a result of sweeping changes for Auckland Transport. #Atlas pushes for #BigOil profits-so more speed, less cycling & EVs stuff.co.nz/nz-news/36081523…

Well, those cycleways and culturally significant projects won't create themselves without free money now, will they... 😛 And hey, who needs flushing toilets when you can dye your hair blue, sing Kumbaya while waving a rainbow flag, screaming eat the rich and free Gaza.🙄

The only thing good about cycleways - they're effective at removing low-t male dna from the gene pool 😂

New Blackwater River Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge Officially Opened in Navan Meath County Council, in partnership with the Fitzwilliam Group, was delighted to mark the official opening of the new Blackwater River Town Bridge and Cycleway in Navan on the afternoon of Friday, 12 June 2026. The ribbon was formally cut by the Mayor of Navan, Cllr Padraig Fitzsimons, in the presence of Chief Executive of Meath County Council Kieran Kehoe and Chairman of Fitzwilliam Group William Smyth, alongside invited guests and local stakeholders. This landmark project delivers a high-quality pedestrian and cycle bridge linking Navan Town Centre with Blackwater Park and the wider Balmoral area, creating a safe, accessible and attractive route for walkers, cyclists and families. Developed on a 0.77-hectare site in the townlands of Abbeyland and Abbeyland South, the project includes the newly constructed bridge, footpaths, cycleways and public lighting infrastructure. The bridge spans the River Blackwater in a north-south direction, connecting key residential and recreational areas with the town centre. The new bridge represents a significant investment in active travel infrastructure in Navan. By providing a traffic-free route, it will support healthier lifestyles, encourage more sustainable travel choices, and reduce reliance on car-based journeys. In addition to its practical benefits, the bridge enhances the local environment by opening up scenic views along the River Blackwater and improving access to Blackwater Park, one of Navan’s key natural amenities. It is also expected to support local businesses by increasing footfall between neighbourhoods and the town centre. Mayor of Navan, Cllr Padraig Fitzsimons said: "I am delighted to officially open this wonderful new bridge for the people of Navan. It is a superb addition to our town, encouraging walking and cycling, connecting key areas, and providing a beautiful space for people to enjoy. This project reflects the positive direction Navan is taking as a vibrant, accessible and forward-looking town." William Smyth, Chairman of Fitzwilliam Group, added: “This is a proud day for all the team at Fitzwilliam Group. The project was originally conceived in 2018, and it has taken a concerted effort with Meath County Council and the various stakeholders involved, to deliver this asset of public good for the community here in Navan.” Chief Executive of Meath County Council Kieran Kehoe said: "This is a fantastic day for Navan. This bridge and cycleway is a vital connection that brings communities closer together, promotes active travel, and enhances the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. “Projects like this demonstrate how we can shape healthier, more sustainable towns while also supporting local economic activity."

It’s all guff, there’s no real commitment to making cycling a safe and viable option it can be for many journeys, it requires money to create / maintain decent Dutch style cycleways, re introduction of guards vans etc. like defence issue it’s impossible with a post 79 economy.

Yep. Cycleways are needed because of the minority of drivers who can’t safely share the road. They need to separate cyclists from those drivers. It’s the same reason we have separated footways.

It was, Ben. Councils can no longer do this. The evidence shows greater harm to cyclists on routes with such painted lanes than where there are none. We should replace them all with cycleways to national standards.

As cycling in London soars, we're expanding our network of safe cycleways. Great to see some serious construction underway along Whipps Cross Road in @wfcouncil. This will transform the corridor making it easier & safer to access amenities like Epping Forest & the hospital.

Anti-cycling Twitter is half people sharing very edited/selective footage of cycleways edited to show one impolite cyclist after another, the other half is people claiming that the infrastructure is never, ever even used. Schrödinger’s cycle lane…

It might be a category error to assume cyclists are part of the 'cyclist lobby' I mean I cane it everywhere on my bike, I'm not out asking for there to be cycleways and bike racks on buses and all lame shit. Just let me swim like a fish.
