On the impact of AI on entry-level jobs, Harrison says he “does not believe in the AI joblocalypse”, noting that companies will not stop hiring junior roles, but the nature of those roles will likely change #LTW26

Elliot says that the major challenge is working with employers about the opportunities and benefits of looking to employ people from outside the obvious backgrounds and skills sets #LTW26

Elliot notes that it is not within central government’s gift to fix all problems, which is why TechFirst is taking a regional approach to support, taking into account devolved education policy, regional strengths & opportunities & working with local anchor institutions #LTW26

Kotcha agrees, noting that while there is talent spread across the country, we are still in a position where opportunities are not spread equally #LTW26

Harrison also notes the regional dimension to inequality in the UK. He notes that, with the tech conversation being “London-centric” these left behind communities “often feel they have little to be hopeful for” #LTW26

On Harrison’s point of school meals, she notes that since all schoolchildren in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 get free school meals we “have lost a metric”; however we know working class children are 2x as likely to be NEET & parent’s financial background still strongest predictor of social mobility #LTW26
