Almond hullsplit (i.e., a natural process of fruit maturity) is progressing, and so is navel orangeworm (NOW) egg-laying activity. The split nuts release volatiles that attract NOW females for egg-laying. Protecting nuts at the hullsplit stage is critical to minimize crop loss.

Hull rot of #almond around harvest in CA. The black/greyish fungal growth inside the hull and dark streaking in the wood indicate Rhizopus. Reducing irrigation at the onset of hullsplit and avoiding excess Nitrogen help reduce the incidence of hull rot.
