Ini hampir mirip cerita saya. 2014 habis pulang dari ngajar setahun di penempatan indonesia mengajar sempat intern di suatu bank sambil cari kerjaan tetap. Dikenalin kawan 1 penugasan di organisasi sebelumnya, di sebuah kantor konsultan yg isi divisinya alumni kampus top univ di indo dan luar indo. Saya yg bukan dari top univ yauda cobain aja proses interviewnya nothing to lose. Habis maghrib diundang ke restoran, di situ ada senior consultant dan calon bos saya. Masih muda, selisih 4-5 tahun di atas saya tapi kariernya melejit (lulusan LBS, ex-McK dan IB di London). Beliau dan si senior tanya2 hal teknis bisnis dan ditutup case interview - marketsizing. Alhamdulillah bisa jawab lancar, minggu depan lgsg dihire dan masuk project M&A gede. Katanya hiring saya ini yg tercepat dan bos bilang ga peduli sama ijazah dan ipk saya. Saya akui itu adalah moment luck saya tinggi banget! Selama project saya diajarin mulai dari strcturing problem mulai dari defining executive’s client goal n expectation. Katanya kalau mau problem solving ya harus tahu apa problemnya. Kalau mau tahu apa problemnya ya mesti clear dulu apa goal dan ekspektasi klien. Ibarat dr jkt mau pergi ke sby ya kita define problem di rute kita aja, jangan problem di rute aceh ke padang kita masukin, ga nyambung dan buang2 waktu. Kemudian waktu awal define client goal, mesti kritis jg. Kadang apa yg dibilang klien belum tentu yg beneran dibutuhin organisasinya. Bos saya bilang ini kayak pasien dateng ke dokter bilang sakit batuk udah 3 minggu. Pasien bilang sakit batuk. Dokter cek segala macam, lihat batuknya cuma symptom, ternyata akarnya bisa jadi TB, kanker paru2, dsb. Ini butuh kejelian plus jam terbang wawasan luas terkait business practice. Sampai sekarang saya ngerasa salah satu rejeki terbesar saya di usia under 30 adalah pernah di bawah bimbingan beliau.
Tahun 2020, pulang dr S2 UK. Pandemi. Susah banget cari kerja. Saya harus mulai lagi dr awal & waktu itu pingin bgt bs masuk tech company. Akhirnya ada yg manggil. One of the unicorns. Happy bgt. Sayangnya saat round kedua, saya dpt info dr HRD kalo directornya ga impressed sama hasil interview saya. Calon user saya saat itu kasih saya KESEMPATAN. Beliau minta saya persiapkan lebih matang untuk round ketiga (total ada 5 rounds), bahkan beliau set up zoom ngajarin saya presentasi dan gimana bikin deck pake barbara minto's pyramid principles. Akhirnya saya keterima. Saya kerja 4 tahun under his leadership dan berkat pengalaman itu saya pun bs pindah ke Big Tech. Di saat hampir semua org nolak lamaran saya, ada beliau yg percaya sama kemampuan saya. Sampe skrg namanya selalu saya sebut dalam doa2 saya.
