Rust is officially part of ROS 2 🤖
The ros2_rust project has been a community effort since 2017 — led by Steve Fernandez, one of the original ROS 2 authors, and supported by Robonomics back when Rust in robotics was far from mainstream. Now rclrs is an official ROS 2 client library alongside rclcpp and rclpy, shipping with the Lyrical Luth distro this May.
In his FOSDEM talk, Steve focuses on the why: Rust brings C -level performance with compile-time safety guarantees — fearless concurrency, no data races, and much of MISRA C built into the language itself. The goal of rclrs isn't to replace C , but to offer a safer alternative within the same ecosystem — especially as ROS powers production systems in logistics, industrial automation, and even space missions.
For us this is a simple confirmation: the things worth supporting are the ones that haven't become obvious yet. Proud to have backed ros2_rust on its path from a community project to part of the standard ROS 2 toolchain.

rclとrclcppのリアルタイム向け拡張がなんとか年内に片付きそうです。といっても既存の弊社パッチを別パッケージとして切り出したところまで。
スレッド属性のデータはrcl層のみの依存なので、rclpyやrclrsからでも（その気があれば）扱えるかなと。
これで冬休みはmROS2のZenoh-Pico対応できそう～♪
