Also its literally not a headcanon to say mahito shapechanging is tied to his nature as a curse and not inherently his CT. The clone that fought nobara was able to use mahito ability to reshape his body despite not having access to the core fundamentals of the original CT.

Those are retcons. But they really don't matter when you view it as the fact mahito shapechanging is more tied to his nature as a curse. Rather than his technique. And theres a gap between his domian and killing mechamaru.
