🌏 PhilGEOS 2025: Connecting the Global Geomatics Community The University of the Philippines hosted PhilGEOS 2025 in Quezon City, attracting 218 participants from across Asia and Europe. The two-day symposium featured 56 talks, 31 posters, 4 plenaries, and a keynote from the European Space Agency, all under the theme “Enhancing Human Quality of Life through Spatial Technologies.” IEEE GRSS co-sponsored the event, with Dr. Mark Angelo Purio and Stephanie Tumampos promoting GRSS at the booth and supporting awards. PhilGEOS also marked the first major activity for the new IEEE GRSS-AESS Joint Philippines Chapter. From UN ESCAP workshops to outstanding undergraduate presentations, the symposium highlighted how geomatics, remote sensing, and spatial analytics are shaping resilient, inclusive, and sustainable societies. Dr. Mark Tupas, PhilGEOS Chair, reflected: "Seeing students, academics, and industry leaders from far away sharing ideas was truly the highlight." The success of PhilGEOS 2025 not only strengthened the global geomatics community but also positioned the IEEE GRSS-AESS Joint Philippines Chapter for exciting initiatives in 2026, including a Distinguished Lecturer from the University of Tokyo and a proposed IEEE GRSS Summer School.
