Keep hearing from the GDM imo team @lmthang and @jj_at_brown @quocleix etc that the IMO gold methods are completely general purpose and not IMO specific that is attributed to an improvement in gemini, not some scaffolding. Then I try gemini 3 (first time using gemini since 2.5 release) and it's still terrible at math. Makes me wonder. A very specific solution to IMO overfit to math/coding competitions? Infinite testtime compute for the IMO model and tiny compute for gemini 3 consumers? Because gemini 3 as is, it's not even in the ballpark of being able to help a researcher. Increasing ttc 10000x is not a general purpose solution that improves gemini. I can take any base model, use enough ttc and it wins gold,this solution is general purpose but not useful for improving the base model!

interestingly. Telsa does use LIDAR in their FSD training, they distill the knowledge of LIDAR into camera-only testtime for sake of optimizing cost of their cars. Its a bold direction and I dont think tesla would have taken this decision lightly without extensive experimentation.
