"suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national" European founders applying for the green card path to US citizenship to get access to Mythos:
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

Everyone thinks about token budget in terms of an engineer's salary but a US marine regularly discharges many times their annual salary in ammunition in just a few seconds.

Asked Fable to write a better six-word short story than “for sale: baby shoes, never worn”. It did a terrible job but then I asked it to treat it like a coding problem, and it wrote: “Introduced myself to Mom again today.”
Community note
The six-word story “Introduced myself to Mom again today” previously appeared in a 2017 article and was not original to the AI. theodysseyonline.com/six-words-tell…

My 7am walk through NYC this morning: • Walk of shame girls still wearing Knicks jerseys • Homeless people arguing with invisible opponents • Interns still drunk from last night probably greatest night of their lives • Finance bros already in quarter-zips holding iced coffees. Probs didn’t even watch the game • Chuzz dude Dog owners getting dragged down the sidewalk by golden doodle NYC is so back

Really great read from @hammer_mt at @every on the benefits of turning off memory in your LLMs. every.to/also-true-for-human…

Everyone building programs with AI needs to now: 1. Be able to swap out models, in short order. 2. Be able to verify, regularly, that your output isn’t silently changing. (You should have been doing this for any production system, with evals, but now there’s no excuse.)

If you can do your job remotely, so can Claude
I shared this note earlier today with the entire team at Opendoor. Today we began to say goodbye to our colleagues in India as we wind down our India operations. Our customers are in America, and that's where our operational work belongs.

Replying to @hammer_mt
Yea this is absurd. I have an enterprise account with Anthropic and I can’t disable the model for my organization and it violates my agreements and ZDR which I have on my console account. Amazingly stupid.

🚨 Heads-up to anyone heavily in the Anthropic / Claude Code ecosystem: Fable is only in preview on our Claude Code subscriptions. After the 22nd Fable will be pay-per-token only. So find those intelligence-heavy projects and do them before the 22nd!

One of the few software products with diseconomies of scale –– you pay more per seat the more seats you have.
Our Anthropic bill is about to jump from $400K → $1.4M/yr. Not because usage exploded, but because we're about to cross 150 seats. Past 150 seats you're forced into Enterprise tier. Seats stop including any usage, every token bills at standard API rates. At our current run rate that's 3.5x overnight. Unfiltered thoughts on AI spend: 1. We should spend tokens to grow as aggressively as possible. But most people (me included) aren't conscious of what they're spending. 2. Visibility comes first. People see their personal number and they're shocked. I accidentally spent $4,000 in 3 days in Claude Code. 3. For engineering the spend is clearly worth it. Pay for the best model, it saves more than it costs. 4. For a lot of other roles it's questionable. Apps nobody uses, skills someone already built. No ROI. 5. Spend limits are coming. We already require approval for more tokens on our support team. The era of token-maxxing is coming to an end.
