I find this thing pretty bizarre. "Pride" in my Boston suburb is basically the same thing as "Riverfest" except they give away little rainbow squishy balls instead of little Earth squishy balls.
No, it’s not “Pride Month.” Not for me, and not for millions of others. You’re welcome to be proud of whatever you want, in any month you like—because this is America. But what started in 1969 as a rebellion against persecution, morphed into a license for public depravity, and then morphed again into a weapon aimed at families and innocent children. Along the way it went from a day, to a week, and then a month and became official, and thereby effectively mandatory for all. Enough! If you’re gay and wondering why you are facing resistance now, the answer is that, with few exceptions, most of you didn’t stand up against the expansion and weaponization of “pride,” and the coercion that went with it. In that failure to resist, the gay community compromised any expectation that the rest of us should support “pride” at all, but especially the obscene display of hostility toward civilization and the families of which it is built, and for whom it exists. If your hackles are raised by the idea that civilization is about families, realize that families are how civilizations persist through time. Not everyone needs to form one, but we all must respect and protect them—It is the foundation of what it means to be civilized. For the small fraction of gays and lesbians who DID courageously stand up and resist expansion, coercion and the weaponization of “Pride,” I stand with you, and I have all along. But I won’t be celebrating, and I won’t be silent. It’s not too late to join the voices of reason and to confront the insanity of what “pride” has become.

Define successful, and please don't mention how many rich people we have or what the GDP is.

That’s only because they had let fare evasion become so bad and assumed fare evasion would never decline x.com/aden_yacobi/status/201…

Clearly there was huge levels of fare evasion. Montgomery County was not leaving just $1.6 million on the table, but likely an order of magnitude more!

People who do this are undeterrable so especially long terms of imprisonment are needed (and caning)
I will never understand the idea that if your team wins a championship, you need to then start destroying things. Where does that urge even come from?

my view is roughly "price risk accurately, and if society wants to help people who are born high-risk, do it openly through tax and transfer, not by forcing the insurance system to carry a hidden and distortionary cross-subsidy"

I don't see why this is particularly relevant. I also did not choose to be low in conscientiousness, but it's obviously relevant to fair actuarial pricing!

Given the current global circumstances, I don't see how embracing carbon-intensive regulations would make things LESS expensive. My broader point is that confiscating Elon Musk's wealth and using it to construct at-cost housing nationwide would be good on both ends.

Something made the police just stop doing their jobs. Idk if it's the informal strike that affected many cities after the accountability push or staffing cuts, but it's something and I've never gotten a satisfactory answer.

Also quite frankly? In the cities where this is a problem much public disorder that is also criminal doesn't show up in the crime stats because the perps are never arrested and/or prosecuted
Replying to @Lib_Development
But meaningfully, I suspect that the people who are complaining about “crime” are actually just complaining about bad behavior. Hence the recent discourse shift towards “public order”, because crime statistics clearly don’t refer to the things people are complaining about

There are three main issues here: 1) The restroom is extremely vulnerable to vandalism. 2) Air conditioning a single-person restroom in a city with an oppressive subtropical climate will invite users to linger or even nap in the space. The goal should be getting people in/out as fast as possible. 3) The unnecessary -- and operationally problematic -- air conditioning will add to the operational and maintenance costs of the restroom. I'd love to know exactly what was going through the minds of the individuals who signed off on this.

Yes, like WMATA, MARTA was built as a "premium" Great Society metro system: the original trains had carpeting and padded seats, and underground stations were once cooled. We probably don't want to bring back the carpeting, but it would absolutely be wise to think about repairing the chillers. Atlanta's climate is comparable to DC's. Imagine how much lower WMATA ridership would be without cooled stations.

It does change the class characteristics, I'm curious what the OLS predicted effect is on math just from being in a class with 1.5 fewer students, and higher SES classmates. 3/
