I’m keeping a close eye on Cloudflare…. The moment they invest in IAM, Enterprise Support, and Field SAs/Engineers, you’ll know this is gonna get a dent as a competitor to AWS. Serious momentum there 👏
I was excited about the Cloudflare announcements this past week. I primarily use AWS in my day job, but I wanted to broaden my knowledge. This weekend, I started building a simple to-do application using Durable Objects and the newly announced zero-latency SQLite storage. In just a few hours, I familiarized myself with Cloudflare and got the basic CRUD operations working. Next weekend, I plan to add WebSocket publications and a few other features, and then write a blog post about it. It was a great learning experience, and I’m impressed with what Cloudflare is doing.

After five and a half happy years, today is my last day at AWS! I feel beyond lucky to have worked with such brilliant people, and to have learnt and grown from their input. I'll be joining @safetycli as a cofounder and CPO. More in the thread 🧵

The shift from customer obsession to AI obsession is so damaging and sad to follow. As a community member, the fun of promoting AWS services vanish when we see the AWS employees who openly appreciated our work flee AWS in droves in what can only be assumed be related to AI.

If you're coming to the OSS Summit in Vienna this week and interested in Valkey, consider checking out the two talks I will be co-presenting: How we built Valkey-Glide: sched.co/1hp7q - AWS built and recently released a multi-language client for Redis and Valkey (aws.amazon.com/about-aws/wha…). We'll be talking about what motivated AWS to contribute into the clients space, why de-centralized OSS client ecosystems are hard for users, and show how the architecture that we are using with Glide helps solve these problems while delivering a high quality client. You never know when you need a fork: sched.co/1ej4w - A deep dive into the formation Valkey right after the Redis relicense situation, what we learned and what you should know. I'm hoping this will be a fun talk that will hopefully be insightful for those interested in open-source. I'll also talk a little bit about the innovation in the project (this talk will get technical, but won't expect you to be) and how that was enabled because of the fork.

Today was my last day at Amazon/AWS. After 12 years in total I've decided to take on a new adventure and will be starting my new gig in a few weeks. No badge on laptop photos, no Day 1 quotes. It's been a lot of a lot and im grateful to friends along the way. Cheers!!
