Many in the media -- including this writer -- have been saying that a second Trump administration will mean the "end of democracy." But Nikki Haley's run proved Trump has difficulty persuading moderate Americans. For those who seek it, history provides context for hope: - Americans fought fascism before, and won. - Americans faced corrupt leaders before, and removed them. - Together, we survived the worst days of the Great Depression. - We rallied from the dark days of Hitler and an invasion at Pearl Harbor. The American people -- your neighbors, friends and family -- can defeat this threat. For those ready to preserve our democracy as we have known it, it’s time to pour on the work. ↓ There is more analysis in the latest post of my newsletter. Everything felt so cozy the moment I walked into Oh. So. Sweet. Bakery & Cafe in Carlyle! Owner Cheri Mansfield’s advice for women who want to start a business? “Don’t be afraid just do it. Don’t be afraid of failure.” So go for it! Because when women thrive, we all thrive!

They said they wouldn't overturn Roe. They said they wouldn't come for IVF. But they did. It's never been about being pro-life—it's been about controlling women's bodies. We cannot allow the rights of embryos to be prioritized over the rights of women. Full stop.
Editorial: A right to IVF or abortion will never be protected if fetuses and embryos are declared people (via @latimesopinion ) latimes.com/opinion/story/20…

Nearly 3.3M Illinoisans live in a food desert — a systemic failure that must be solved. My administration established Farm to Food Bank, implemented SNAP online, and created the Illinois Grocery Initiative to help existing grocers and open new stores in underserved communities.

Trump brags about overturning Roe v. Wade and he’ll implement a national abortion ban. If you reelect me and Kamala, and we take back the House and gain a bigger majority in the Senate, we will restore Roe v. Wade.

When I saw House Republicans propose devastating cuts that would have forced states to deny families WIC benefits for the first time ever, I made clear I would move mountains to make sure WIC was fully funded in the government funding bills—and that's exactly what I did.

As we celebrate #WomensHistoryMonth, we must confront reality: Women have fewer rights today than 50 years ago. Emily's story is a stark reminder of what's at stake this November.
This Women’s History Month, you need to hear Emily’s story.

It now seems official that the Republican nominee is an adjudicated rapist, business fraud, and insurrectionist who's been indicted on 91 criminal charges. That is how an honest media must refer to him in every headline between now and November.

Big corporations are making record profits while Californians struggle to make ends meet. If we want Washington to crack down on corporate greed, we need more leaders who aren’t beholden to corporate donors.
Bigger corporate profits account for *over half* of the higher prices people are paying.

Illinois will be the first in the nation to ban prior authorization for in-patient adult and children's mental healthcare with the Healthcare Consumer Access and Protection Act. Patients suffering a crisis will receive care without jumping through hoops created to deny coverage.

Across our nation, fundamental freedoms are under assault. The freedom to vote. The freedom to learn. The freedom to control one’s own body. The freedom to just simply be. We have been called to fight for and protect our fundamental freedoms—and together, we will get it done.

I'll say it because Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis refused to. Donald Trump admitting that he will be a dictator on day one absolutely disqualifies him from being president.

Forced birth. Nothing less. Everyone should be able to decide for themselves if and when they want to become a parent. Abortion bans makes that decision for people and come with physical, emotional and economic consequences.
Births increased in every state with an abortion ban, an analysis of preliminary data since Roe v. Wade was overturned shows. The biggest increases were in states where women had to travel the farthest to reach an abortion clinic. nyti.ms/3GeLKOi

Safety guidelines and fair wages are the cost of business, but greedy corporations often tack on bogus “junk fees” to trick customers into paying more. I convened a roundtable of experts to discuss how we can crack down on this deception and protect consumers.
