Latest: Coastguard warns of a ‘danger to life’ after huge hole appears on Shoebury East Beach. The coastguard is warning people to stay away from the 7ft-deep hole as it could pose a “danger to life”. The whole which is 9ft long and 8ft wide and 7ft deep was discovered yesterday. It has since been cordoned off as a safety precaution. Coastguard officers reported the discovery to Dover Maritime Coordination Centre, along with photos of it and some items seen scattered around the hole. The Coastguard said: “We ask members of the public to remain well clear of the hole and ask parents to remind their children to not venture in any holes on the beach. “Holes will collapse around you and the mix of water and sand will cement you in situ endangering life. “Should you see anyone in trouble on or near the coast, don’t hesitate to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard, you could save someone’s life.”

The event is not due to start for an hour and regrettably officers are already dealing with disorder.   There is an area allocated for this event in Richmond Terrace. This group went past it and continued up Whitehall. When officers formed a cordon and asked the group to turn round, they reacted by violently forcing their way through. Mounted officers intervened with horses to restore the cordon.
