Mass incarceration causes early death, in Florida the heat kills many incarcerated every year.
Older adults who have ever been behind bars are expected to live nearly 6 fewer years than similar peers who have never been incarcerated. Mass incarceration is shaving years off people's lives:

⚠️ WARNING- The property tax amendment disclaimer This constitutional amendment may cause increased dependence on Tallahassee, reduced local independence, replacement fees and assessments, higher borrowing costs, altered housing incentives, expanded lobbying activity, and, in certain communities, financial distress. Not effective for renters. Renters may continue experiencing rising housing costs without receiving any advertised tax relief. Effects may last longer than four hours. Some effects may persist for generations. Before voting, ask your Governor whether county-by-county and city-by-city financial modeling is right for you.

2/10 Challenge #1: Ballot Language The amendment is being marketed under the name “Save Our Homes.” Florida already has a constitutional provision called Save Our Homes. If voters are confused about what they’re approving, expect litigation before a single ballot is cast. It’s happened before see the Everglades case

Families who lose loved ones to violence are not interested in political talking points or tough jargon. They want accountability. They want dangerous offenders off the streets. And they want a criminal justice system capable of preventing the next tragedy before it occurs 👇

Realistic everyday skills should be high on the list of reentry priorities. Spending OUR money on ineffective or even fraudulent orgs claiming reentry services should not make the list.
Most of us log into our bank accounts online without a second thought. But for many people reentering society, accessing basic banking services isn't always that simple 👀

Florida families shouldn’t have to choose between protecting their homes and putting food on the table. I wrote a bill to give middle-income Floridians $800 in flood insurance tax relief. That’s a start. We need to bring a wrecking ball to insurance rates.

"The greatest trick DeSantis ever pulled was convincing Floridians that local government is the problem and state government is the solution." Another straw man from Jeff. Local governments still have full control of their budgets.
“The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.” - The Usual Suspects The greatest trick DeSantis ever pulled was convincing Floridians that local government is the problem and state government is the solution. If your mayor, sheriff, and county commission have to fly to Tallahassee every year to ask permission to fund basic services, the state didn’t shrink government. It just moved it farther away and gave you less control.

I can already see the lawsuit. A Marine retires after 30 years of service and moves to Florida in January 2027. He’s told he must wait five years for the full homestead benefit. His next-door neighbor gets it immediately because they established residency before the cutoff date. The question isn’t whether that’s popular. The question is whether that’s fair.

No child should have to worry about where their next meal will come from. For many families, summer break means losing access to the reliable meals children receive at school. Feeding Tampa Bay’s Cereal for Summer campaign helps bridge that gap by providing nutritious meals to children throughout our community. Whether you donate a box of cereal or make a financial contribution, every act of generosity helps ensure local children have the food they need to learn, grow, and thrive. Scan the QR code to donate or find a drop-off location near you. Together, we can help make this a brighter summer for Tampa Bay families.

Just a reminder that since getting back into office, Pres. Trump has slashed billions of dollars in grants that kept communities across the U.S. safe, from mental health services to housing-first programs. How's that for making America "safe" again?
Today, we’re excited to announce the Model Cities Initiative which is the next step in this administration's mission to restore law and order, back the Blue, and Make America SAFE again. Thanks to the One Big Beautiful Bill, we are surging $300 million in grant funds to support 2-4 cities with a population of 100k or more who are serious in reducing violent crime, restoring law and order, and modernizing their public safety infrastructure. Under @POTUS's leadership, this Department of Justice, and this Initiative is focused on results, and are looking for true whole-of-government partnerships. Apply now: justice.gov/grants Submissions are due September 1st.

My aunt had down's @DannyBurgessFL and is probably the reason I feel protective for folks with the the same (dis)ability. I have never known anyone to experience pure glee over some of the simplest things! Js
A child with Down syndrome is not less human, less valuable, or less deserving of life. When disability becomes a justification for death, we've lost sight of the inherent worth God gives every person. We have drifted from a belief in intrinsic human dignity toward a belief that a life's worth is determined by its perceived quality. We have grown uncomfortable with sacrifice and increasingly measure human worth by convenience. Our society is the one who is sick.

Thank you @JeffreyBrandes for nerding out! Mortgage math gives me a run for my money, but insurance? Forever renter
🧵 Lots of debate on this tax issue, but let me make a technical suggestion I think we all can agree on. Nerd out with me for a second- Florida’s 95% Rule (FS 200.065) is why your property taxes feel higher than needed. When setting millage rates, counties, cities, and schools must calculate taxes using only 95% (or less) of the certified taxable value…even though they’ll actually collect more. Built-in cushion by design. #FloridaTaxes 1/4

➡️ Community supervision hit its peak in 2009. Since then, the overall rate of people on probation or parole dropped by 31%. These declining numbers are the result of courts placing fewer people on probation and parole boards being stingier with granting release in recent years.
